Advanced Clinical Intern

Matt Stoner Fehsenfeld serves as an Advanced Clinical Intern at Anesis, bringing a diverse educational and experiential background to his role. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from UW Madison, an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts from Madison College, and is currently a Master's student in Marriage and Family Therapy at Edgewood College. With three years of experience co-facilitating mindfulness meditation groups at Oakhill Correctional Institution in Oregon, WI, Matt is deeply committed to helping clients process and heal from trauma, drawing on his personal experience as a survivor of gun violence to foster genuine growth and healing.

In his therapeutic practice, Matt employs mindfulness, Emotion Focused Therapy, attachment theory, and Polyvagal theory, alongside somatic techniques that integrate body and mind. He is currently working towards a certification in somatic EMDR. Outside the clinic, Matt enjoys running, rock climbing, gardening, and cooking, and he cherishes time spent playing games with his wife and kids. An avid reader and poet, he is also an active member of his local sangha, practicing in the Zen tradition of Plum Village founded by Thich Nhat Hanh.

Matt brings a calm, centered, and non-judgmental presence to his practice, skills honed through his own life experiences and his work in prisons. A fun fact about him is his enjoyment of winter swimming in the icy waters of Madison's lakes. At Anesis, Matt appreciates the focus on community healing and the mission to make mental health services accessible to all, finding inspiration in the resilience and growth of the people he works with, feeling privileged to support their journeys toward healing.
