Nolan Miller

My name is Nolan Miller. I am a graduate student in the Master of Clinical Mental
Health Counseling program at West Virginia University. I recently moved from West Virginia to Wisconsin and am happily adjusting to life in Madison. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Japanese with a minor in international affairs from Marshall University in 2017 and a second Bachelor of Arts in Mental Health and Addiction Studies from West Virginia University in 2024.

I provide a humanistic and relational approach to therapy where individuals can explore patterns, gain insight, and find the courage to move toward a more authentic way of living. I value encouragement, acceptance, and understanding the whole person within the context of their relationships and life experiences. I believe mental health is shaped not only by individual choices, but also by social and cultural contexts. I honor clients where they are and acknowledge how power and oppression in social systems can result in discouragement, disconnection, and dysfunction. In working together, I hope to foster a sense of belonging, empowerment, and growth that promotes empathy, connection, and meaning to heal from what harms.

I have a special interest and great respect for individuals experiencing grief and bereavement. Loss in all forms is never easy, yet society often pressures us to move on while in the midst of our deepest hurt. I hope to provide a space that honors grief and collaborates with individuals on navigating their lives in the wake of loss. My professional experience includes working as behavioral health technician at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. During my time there, I worked alongside medical and mental health professionals in helping individuals find recovery from substances. I am also a graduate teaching assistant for West Virginia University and teach undergraduate students online about different helping professions.

Outside of academics and counseling, I enjoy hiking, tending to my various houseplants, and collecting vinyl records
