Kat Garcia
(She/Her)
Advanced Practicum Internist
Kat Garcia serves as a clinical mental health intern at our clinic and is currently completing the final year of her Master of Social Work degree with a focus on Mental Health at UW Madison. Her approach to therapy is person-centered and strengths-based. She believes everyone already has the tools they need to heal and possesses unique strengths that will aid in that process, with the clinician serving as a guide. Kat aims to provide a nonjudgmental environment and is guided by the idea of cultural humility, which acknowledges that clinicians don't know everything and should be open to learning from individuals seeking services.
Kat is informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, as well as Systems Theory, which focuses on how people impact and are impacted by their environments. Her goal is to become an effective integrative clinician who utilizes different techniques based on the needs of the individual. Kat is especially interested in working with folks living with chronic conditions, LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities, and new parents with young children. During her free time, Kat is active in the local theatre and film community and is also a freelance writer and poet. She also enjoys reading sci-fi novels and watching movies/eating snacks with her seven year old.
