Dr. Alyssa Ramirez Stege

Psychologist

Dr. Alyssa Ramirez Stege, a Psychologist at Anesis Therapy, possesses a decade of extensive experience in the mental health field. With a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, she has crafted a specialty in supporting diverse populations, such as Spanish-speaking immigrants, BIPOC, and the LGBTQIA+ community. Her work addresses a wide range of concerns, from trauma and the effects of discrimination to depression, anxiety, acculturation stress, and identity development.

Her therapeutic approach, grounded in Psychodynamic, Interpersonal, and Emotion-focused therapy modalities, is underpinned by a profound belief that psychological healing is both an individual and collective journey. This healing, she posits, is achievable when we learn to experience ourselves as loved in our fullest humanity.

Dr. Ramirez Stege's commitment to mental health extends beyond therapy sessions into the sphere of academia and research. She has significantly contributed to the field through numerous impactful publications, including "Mujeres abnegadas: The influence of gender expectations on the psychiatric encounter in Mexico", "A critical postcolonial and resilience-based framework of supervision in action", and "Bridging the gap: Addressing the mental health needs of underrepresented collegiate students at psychology training clinics". As the Director for the UW-Madison Esperanza Bilingual Psychological Services Certificate, she further underscores her commitment to supporting diverse populations.

Away from her professional responsibilities, Dr. Ramirez Stege cherishes time with her partner, family, and friends, often hosting meals that recreate the flavors of home. An outdoor enthusiast, she enjoys pickleball, motorcycle riding, and recreational softball. When indoors, she finds solace in engrossing books and informative podcasts about history and music.

Dr. Ramirez Stege brings unique skills to her role, such as her bilingual ability in English and Spanish. In addition, she taps into ancestral wisdom, acknowledging the integrative healing of not just the mind and emotions, but also the body, spirit, historical contexts, and the environment. Her membership with the Edward A. Bouchet Honors Society showcases her commitment to promoting diversity and excellence.

A fun fact about Dr. Ramirez Stege is her lifelong passion for Mexican folkloric dance, which she can still perform to a Jarabe Poblano or Tapatio. At Anesis Therapy, she deeply values her part in her clients' healing journeys and the freedom to fully express herself within her workspace.
